Week 5 Presentations

Image
Presentation In this week's unit I explored the reaches of PowerPoint. Although I have used PowerPoint for years in schooling, home and university, there were some new aspects that I wanted to play around with. In my dabbling, I created a fun PowerPoint, which I labelled The Benefits of PowerPoint . Unfortunately, in order to properly view the transitions in this PowerPoint document, you will have to download it. In experimentation of adding this document to my blog, I uploaded it to google slides and lost the fun transitions on the pages. I have edited the google slides PowerPoint , but the transitions do not have the same effect that they do on PowerPoint. The settings of PowerPoint make it a very diverse application that strives to achieve the requirements for many types of presentations. It incorporates both audio and video recording software to match the pace and slides of the PowerPoint. It allows for interactivity on the slides using buttons and animation. Using the online...

Week 4 - Digital Media

Image
Digital Media Digital media covers many types of media, including text, images, videos and audio. This variety of media allows students to explore any topics introduced in classrooms in further depth. Students would have access to videos, podcasts or the ability to study images. Each individual student has a learning style that they benefit from the most, however, from my experience, most students tend to benefit more from kinaesthetic and visual learning styles as the predominant pedagogy. Using auditory instructions does assist students, but making them sit still with no physical engagement proves to be more detrimental to the developing mind. The website MindTools has an excellent explanation on the Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic (VAK) learning styles and the strategies that can be utilised in study situations to benefit those learners. Using sites such as Canva allows a student to create their own media like posters for class tasks. Apps similar to Paint3D allow a person to dr...

Week 3 - Web Spaces

Image
The Brilliance of Blogging Online sites can allows students to explore the digital world with ease, including the ability to create their own entries into the internet. They will be able to explore different view points, collaborate on multi-author wikis with fellow students and create their own little slice of the digital world with a reflectionary blog. Each blog site is unique in its abilities. Some blog sites allow the author to dictate the positions of each text box, image and other widgets that can be used on a website. Other blogs have a document-like presentation during the creation of the blog post. Similar to Microsoft Word or Google Docs, you are able to manipulate images into specific areas, however, presenting widgets is more difficult. Each site I have explored allows differing options for layout. All sites allow the author to revise their content and make edits to already published works. Blogs are typically single-author, however, if students share a profile, they w...

Week 2 - The Nature of Digital Pedagogy

Image
Pedagogical Principles What are the Pedagogical Principles (defined in the Learning Materials)? Pedagogical Principles are a set of guidelines that encourage the learning of a student. Some Pedagogical Principles include; - Enabling collaborative learning and providing opportunities for conversation. - Planning real life contextual problem solving questions. - Applying the subject to make the learning more relevant to the students in the class. - Enables deep knowledge through critical thinking skills. - Encourages the cultural knowledge between the different groups of students. - Encourages students to explore the management of their own learning. - And more! What do the Pedagogocial Principles mean to you in common language? In 'common language', the Pedagogical Principles are teaching students to become more self-sufficient by relation to their own lives, encouraging communication and acceptance, and boosting critical thinking skills. Consider whether the Pedagogical Princ...

Week 1 - Contemporary Teachers and Students

Image
You as a contemporary teacher? To what extent is it reasonable to conclude that if you are not experiencing positive or negative emotions about the materials and activities in any learning experience, that you are potentially disinterested or not motivated? Discuss in relation to your first emotional response to the nature of this unit. It is very reasonable to conclude that if one has no experience of positive or negative emotions during a course of study, that they may become disinterested or unmotivated. I am looking forward to the learnings that will be presented in this unit, however, I am the kind of learner that will zone out if the content being delivered is too complicated or not delivered succinctly. I tend to struggle in auditory learning, so hearing someone talk about the same subject for more than an hour can be very draining. Elaborate on your emotions on engaging further with this unit? Positive, negative. Indifferent? My emotions at the moment are hopeful, as this first...
